What is this place?
It should be obvious to everyone that something BIG is happening in the World. A shift. If you dont think so, then none of these pages will interest you.
For everyone else that agrees something BIG is happening: I’m just trying to find out what it is and WHY it is happening now.
These pages are just some of my notes along the way. I share them with you to hopefully save you the time I spent on all of it.
My personal bio is is here, if you care. But this site isn’t an “ego” site for my CV, patents, and publications. (Although, maybe if we get through the next gauntlet, it will be.) Right now, it’s for sharing information. It’s a collection of important stuff I misunderstood, didn’t know, or that I discovered were outright lies.
What made you research this stuff?
I am technical by trade (research) but just before the lockdowns of 2020 I began getting caught-up on reading I’d been putting-off my entire adult life. As I got caught-up, I realized that virtually everything I thought I knew about history and World events was wrong.
“If they’re lying about this, then what else have they been lying about?”
I took hundreds of pages of notes. It’s been several years now. My house is cluttered with books and research materials that have spilled over into a storage unit. But I still have a lot more on the list.
In early 2023 (after a 3 year hiatus from “the net”) I began occasionally sharing my notes on these subjects as Twitter threads. Those threads are replicated here as interactive video, audio, and photo exhibits. Years of research and reading went into these notes, so I share them here in the hopes that others can use them as ‘shortcuts’.
Why “Twitter Threads” and why here?
There is something therapeutic about scrolling thru good twitter threads. It is a unique medium all its own, and I dont think it gets enough credit.
- It isnt the short-attention span video clips of tiktok or vine
- nor is it the aesthetic-only appeal of a photo-galllery or instagram story.
- It isn’t an intimidating wall of text like a blog or substack. It’s a literary blend of all three.
Twitter as “Digital Mixed Media”
In a way, twitter is digital “mixed media”. It “penetrates” the mind in the way that only reading can, but can also have embedded video and photos like no book can. It is literary, but more approachable than a whitepaper or book. It forces the writer to be concise.
Writing less is harder than writing more.
As much as we might not want to admit it, Twitter thread “long reads” are a unique way to capture ideas. The willful act of Twitter thread-scrolling, feels like “digital page-turning”. Page-turning in a massive crowd-sourced e-book. Instead of footnotes at the bottom of the page, the references and appendices are woven into what you’re reading (as links or quote-tweets).
So in homage to the uniqueness of Twitter threads, the “threads” archived on this site are meant to roughly-approximate the fun of thumbing thru a great thread. Also, all threads are collected here in a censorship-resilient “bookshelf”. (Twitter should add a built-in “thread showcase gallery”.)
How’d you build the interactive exhibits?
Short answer: I wrote software (threadreader-to-slideshow) to do most of the work. Then I spent days trying to make them look engaging. (I am still doing fixups on many of them as of 30Sept2024).
The process was this:
- Twitter threads that weren’t already there were sent to “Threadreader App”
- Threadreader link was backed up to “Archive.Today”
- Threadreader Thread was downloaded with “Threadreader Downloader”
- Downloaded thread was converted to slideshow with “Threadreader-to-Slideshow”
